Private Client and Trusts

We advise on all Jersey aspects of international private client and trust matters.

We provide constitutional documents and supplemental deeds for the establishment, operation and termination of both traditional private client vehicles (discretionary trusts, purpose trusts and foundations), as well as alternative private wealth structures such as family unit trusts and limited partnerships.

We also advise in relation to the transactional work that often takes place at or below the main trust structure level, where Jersey entities are entering transactions, borrowing, granting security over their assets or being restructured.

We provide legal opinions in relation to all Jersey structures and also advise in relation to commercial trusts, including in the context of employee benefit structures.

Our clients range from trustees and leading regulated trust companies to family offices and sovereign wealth funds.  We regularly advise on international private client mandates and are frequently instructed by onshore law firms specialising in private client work.  We are also well known for our expertise in the context of commercial trusts (including JPUTs and Employee Benefit Trusts).

Recent work highlights include:

Advising on the establishment of a non-charitable purpose trust as an orphan structure in the context of winding up an insolvent Luxembourg fund – value £28m.

Advising on the restructuring of a multi-jurisdictional family owned trust and corporate investment holding structure for an ultra high net worth Middle East family.

Advising a regulated trust company in relation to their acquisition of a private client portfolio from another trust company.
